ball mill

In this post we're going to talk about why the output of ball mill is decrease.

We're going to cover 6 reasons:

  1. Overgrinding problem

  2. Excessive working time

  3. Not add steel balls in time

  4. Temperature rises inside the cylinder

  5. Excessive moisture content of the material

  6. Unreasonable appending proportion of the grinding aid

Let's take a close look!

Usually, there is a range of output value on the technical specification guide when we purchase the grinding mill. In general, the output of the ball mill remains normal when it is just put into production.However, after running for a period of time, the output of ball mill may become lower. Do you know why it happens?

1. Over-grinding problem

When the output of ball mill is lower and lower, the first thing that should be considered is over-grinding problem, which is the culprit affecting the output of ball mill.

There are several reasons causing over-grinding problem as follows:

• Too much feeding;

• The hardness and particle size of the grinding materials become harder and larger;

• Excessive moisture of the grinding material;

• Unreasonable grading of steel balls;

• Partition is blocked by debris.

The solution to over-grinding problem as follows:

• Reduce the amount of feeding;

• The corresponding adjustment should be taken in time when the size or hardness of the grinding material changes;

• Adjust the moisture content of grinding materials;

• Adopt the reasonable proportion of large,meddle and small steel balls;

• Clean the bulkhead on the partition;

• Strengthen the ventilation of the cylinder.

2. Excessive working time

The working time of ball mill has direct influence on the composition and purity of the grinding product. Besides, the working time of ball mill also has obvious influence on the particle size. In the initial stage, the particle size decreases rapidly with the extension of the working time, but after a certain period of time, the particle size of the grinding product does not decline greatly even if the grinding time continues to be extended. Different ores mean different grinding time. In addition, the longer grinding time, the more serious the pollution will be, which affects the purity of the product.

3. Not added the steel ball in time

The grinding effect and output of the ball mill are restricted by the steel ball in the ball mill. But the steel ball might have wears with the grinding and impact of the cylinder body, so it is necessary to add the steel ball timely, which can maximize the output of the ball mill.

4. Temperature rises inside the cylinder

When the temperature of the ball mill rises during the running, the effective strain of nanomaterials formed by the ball mill decreases and the grain size increases, which significantly affect the mechanical properties of the powder. In addition, whether the final product of ball mill is solid solution, intermetallic compound, nanocrystalline oramorphous phase, all of the them involve the problem of diffusion, which is also affected by the grinding temperature, so temperature is also an important factor affecting the output of ball mill.

5. Excessive moisture content of the material

Firstly, large moisture content of the material has the influence on the uniformity of feeding and prolongs the feeding time. Secondly, if the wet material feeding too much, it may cause the phenomenon of steel ball pasted or linear pasted, even over-grinding. Generally speaking, the output of ball mill will be reduced by 8%-10% for every 1%increase of the comprehensive water content of grinding materials. When the moisture content is more than 5%, the ball mill is basically unable to perform the grinding operation.

6. Unreasonable appending proportion of the grinding aid

The national standard stipulates, grinding aids are allowed to be added in the cement production process, but the dosage shall not exceed 1%. It is unreasonable to add more than 1%. In addition, the surface of most grinding aids has strong activity, which is not suitable for all materials. Therefore, the grinding aids shall be added according to the material properties.

Conclusion

If the output of your ball mill is lower and lower, you can check it according to the above reasons, find the crux of the problem, and solve the problem from the root, resume production of ball mill as soon as possible.
