(The ore samples that beneficiated for customers)

The purpose of ore sampling is to evaluate the beneficiability of ore or to provide technical basis for the design of new processing plant. In mineral processing production and testing, a range of products is sampled to inspect and analyze the process of mineral processing and to provide certain technical data for design and production. This article will take you a comprehensive understanding of ore sampling from three aspects: ore sampling principles, ore sampling conditions, and ore sampling methods.

Ore Sampling Principles

  1. The minimum weight of the ore sample should meet the weight required for product inspection and analysis studies.

  2. Ensure the representativeness of the ore samples. The weight requirements for samples vary with the nature of the ore, and the following ore properties should be considered when determining the minimum weight of the ore sample.

  • The larger the particle size of the ore, the more sample weight is required.

  • For ore with uneven distribution of useful minerals, the sampling amount should be larger.

  • The minerals in the ore are fine-grained and evenly disseminated ore, the sampling amount can be less.

  • For ore with a large difference in the proportion of various minerals, the sampling amount should be larger.

Ore Sampling Conditions

  1. As the smaller the size of the mineral, the easier it is to take a representative ore sample. Therefore, under the condition of meeting the process requirements, the ore should be crushed to the smallest particle size before taking ore samples.

  2. The metal content is unevenly distributed in each particle size material, and ore sampling points should be increased.

  3. For flowing slurry, ore sample should be taken where the slurry flow has a certain height difference and low flow velocity.

  4. Ore sample should be taken during the rotation of moving materials.

  5. Industrial testing should select safe and reliable ore sampling locations and methods based on production site conditions.

Ore Sampling Methods

Sampling of the Ore Pile

The dot-line method is to draw a series of horizontal lines parallel to the bottom of the pile with a mutual distance of 0.5 meters on the entire surface of the pile (the distance between the bottom line and the bottom of the pile is 0.25 meters), and then arrange a production point 0.5 to 2 meters apart on the line.

The ore sampling method is to use a shovel to dig a small pit with a depth of 0.5 meters perpendicular to the surface of the ore pile, and collect it at the bottom of the pit. The weight of the sample taken at each point (or the number of shoveling) should be proportional to the vertical distance from the pit to the bottom of the pile. The sampled products at each point are integrated together to be the ore sample.

Ore sampling from pile where the physical and chemical properties of the ore vary considerably, a sampling well should be dug from the pile, which should be dug straight from the top of the pile to the bottom. The number of wells and their arrangement should be determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the degree of variation in the metal content of the ore and the purpose of ore sampling.

When digging a well, for each layer (1 to 2 meters), the dug ore must be piled into small piles, and several piles will be obtained after digging in sequence. Then several piles of ore samples were sampled by the grab method and integrated together as the well sample. When the samples of each well are combined together, the weight of the sample to be mixed must be determined according to the depth of each well and proportionately.

Sampling in the Minecart

  • Surface Grabbing

Several production points can be arranged on the mine car, and the ore sampling points can be manually grabbed, or a small pit with a depth of 0.25 to 0.5 meters can be used as a sample with a shovel. The samples at each ore sampling point are mixed to be the mine car sample.

  •  Stratified Sampling

For ore that is unevenly distributed in the mine cart, the layered sampling method should be used to sample. This method is usually carried out during loading or unloading. First remove the surface layer of 1/6 height of the car, then use the surface grab method to take sample, then remove the upper layer of the car 1/2 height, and also use the surface grab method to take sample. It is generally divided into two layers, and the mine car sample is mixed with the ore samples collected at each point of the two layers.
