Last post we've covered 3 factors that will affect magnetic separator from external factors, here we're continue to talk about 3 factors that will affect magnetic separator's efficiency from the machine itself:

  1. Speed of drum of magnetic separator

  2. Magnetic declination of magnetic separator

  3. Clearance between drum and bottom of trough of magnetic separator

If you want to imporve the efficiency of your magnetic separator, you're in the right place.

Let's drive right in!

1. Speed of drum of magnetic separator

1) Effect on processing capacity

The degree of the magnetic separator cylinder speed has a greater impact on the processing capacity, the higher the cylinder speed, the greater the processing capacity, and vice versa.

  • Generally speaking, the magnetic separator with a small diameter will use a high speed. For example, the diameter of 600mm will use a speed of 40r/min.

  • Large diameter with low speed, such as Φ 750 mm diameter with speed for 36 r/min.

2) Effect on concentrate grade

The rotating speed of the drum of the magnetic separator will also have a certain influence on the quality of concentrate.

  • The magnetic separator with a high rotating speed of the drum will not have much effect on the hyphen and gangue with small magnetic properties, but only on the separation of ores with high magnetic properties, so it will affect the quality of concentrate.

  • The magnetic separator with low rotating speed of the cylinder, the speed is relatively slow, at this time the magnetic induction will also choose the mineral with weak magnetism, will also affect the quality of its concentrate.

2. Magnetic declination of magnetic separator

1) Effect on concentrate grade

Generally, the magnetic separator officially produced by the state in the drive shaft head will be equipped with a magnetic system deflection indicator device, by turning the nut to adjust the size of the magnetic system deflection.

Too large or too small deviation angle of magnetic system will affect the magnetic separation efficiency of magnetic separator.

  • Too small deviation angle will affect the quality of concentrate, so that the mineral particles with small magnetic system have a chance to be selected;

  • If the deviation angle is too large, only the minerals with high magnetic properties are selected, and there is almost no chance for the minerals with low magnetic properties to be selected. Therefore, the concentrate quality will be improved, but the tailing grade will be increased, and the recovery rate will be reduced.

Generally, the deviation angle of magnetic system commonly used in the selection plant is 15°~20°, and the specific deviation angle of each selection plant should be determined according to the operating requirements. After the adjustment, if the operating conditions and requirements in the production do not change, try not to change.

3. Clearance between drum and bottom of trough of magnetic separator

1) Effect on concentrate grade

The size of the clearance between the drum and the tank is one of the factors that affect the magnetic separation efficiency of the magnetic separator.

  • If the clearance is too small (that is, the distance between the shell and the tank is too close), the slurry will not be smooth when passing through, which will affect the processing capacity. At the same time, due to the magnetic field strength, the strong magnetic and weak magnetic minerals will be separated together, thus reducing the quality of concentrate.

  • If the gap is too large, the separation intensity of minerals with weak magnetic system will be reduced. Although the concentration quality is improved, the recovery rate is reduced.

The working clearance range of the general magnetic separation plant is within the range of 35-60mm, and the specific clearance size shall be determined according to the actual situation of the separation plant.

Conclusion

Now we know the magnetic separator's efficiency will be affected by both external factors (feed ore concentration, size and slurry pressure) and internal factors, like the rotation speed of the cylinder, the magnetic system deviation Angle, the clearance between the cylinder and the bottom of the trough. Before choosing a suitable magnetic separaotr, you can also ask machine manufactors for professional advice.
